Mapathon @ AAG
Sat, April 8, 2017, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM EDT
This EventBrite is for participants who do not have an existing registration to the AAG Annual Meeting but would like to attend the Mapathon events on Saturday, April 8 at the Mapathon Lounge (Hynes Convention Center, Room 206).
Attendees can join a community of online mappers and contribute to OpenStreetMap for humanitarian efforts. Using satellite imagery and freely available OpenStreetMap editing platforms, participants will trace, edit, and label key infrastructure (buildings, roads, etc.), environmental features, and other objects for the creation of openly available real data to produce maps that assist humanitarian and community efforts.
The Mapathon events will feature a wide array of impactful speakers from academia, government, and the private sector. The first Mapathon on Friday afternoon will be hosted on the MIT campus, with mapping projects supporting the Presidential Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR). The Mapathon on Saturday afternoon will be held in the AAG Mapathon lounge and will feature select mapping projects in South America. All mapping events are open to the public, you just need to RSVP.
The Mapathon @ AAG is supported by MapGive, George Mason University, YouthMappers, Missing Maps, MapBox, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the American Association of Geographers.
