Description
“It’s easier to talk to your children about sex than farmland transition.” – An Iowa farmer
Map of My Kingdom was commissioned by Practical Farmers of Iowa and written by Mary Swander, Iowa’s poet laureate. In the play, character Angela Martin, a lawyer and mediator in land transition disputes, shares stories of how farmers and landowners have approached their farmland transfers. Map of My Kingdom will be performed by Maria Vorhis, an actor from Central Iowa who graduated from Iowa State University. For more information:

Friday night performance at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre (508 South Main St. Moscow, ID). An opening reception from 6-7pm, hosted by the Palouse-Clearwater Food Coalition, will feature free appetizers from Kitchen Counter and a no host bar with local beer from Moscow Brewing Company and local wine from Clearwater Canyon Cellars. The play will show from 7-8 pm. A 30-minute discussion with Mary Swander, author of the play, will follow the performance.
Tickets are "pay what you can" to make the play accessible to all. Suggested rates are $10 per person or $20 per family. Note: Those registered for Cultivating the Harvest and Seeding the Future: Inland NW 20th Anniversary Small Acreage Farming Conference will receive a ticket to Map of My Kingdom as part of the conference registration.
Also consider registering for a 2-hour workshop on Farmland Transfer, led by Mary Swander on Friday, March 1st from 1-3 pm in Moscow. This interactive workshop is for farmers, ranchers and farm families. Whether you are just starting to think about farmland transfer or have done significant transition planning, you will leave with a clearer vision of what you want most for your farmland’s future. The workshop is $15.
