MAP Block Party + Neighborhood Treasure Unveiling
Date and time
Description
Saturday June 8, 2019 @ 11am we will be celebrating our fourth Neighborhood Treasure; Japanese Monrovians!
Who are the Japanese Monrovians?
Monrovia families like the Uyedas, Tsuneishis, Asanos, Kuromiyas, and others came to Monrovia to build the strawberry farms, the grocery stores, and the fruit stands. After Pearl Harbor, many Japanese Monrovians were sent to Internment Camps and after their release, many of these families came home to Monrovia, graduated their children from Monrovia schools, and are buried at Live Oak Cemetery. Join us as we celebrate their lives and stories as a part of Monrovia's identity and legacy!
