Event description

Description

The need to prepare for an active shooter or situations involving aggressive persons is all too real. Hosted in conjunction with the City of Durand Police Department, part one of the MAP (Mentality, Awareness, and Preparation) program is presented by attorney and police officer Kellie Brandt. Part one will include information on Deadly Force Incidents, how to perform records checks and risk assessments on volunteers and staff, information on applicable Michigan laws, and an overview of the MAP program with verbal scenarios and responses.

This event is open to all community groups and businesses but may be especially relevant for faith-based organizations, social clubs, and groups or businesses which are open to the general public or frequently host a large number of people.

Those that have participated in part one of the training are welcome to schedule part two at their own facilities. Part two includes scenario-based practical applications with veteran police officers. The focus of this practical session is to train your people on what to look for and how to properly respond to uncooperative individuals, belligerent people, active shooters, and other supicious persons. The practical session will also teach people how to apply laws and what can and cannot be done during these situations.
