Event description

Description

Sponsored by The OneRail Coalition in conjunction with the House Manufacturing Caucus

The rail industry represents a significant supply chain of well paying, skilled jobs, that often turn into careers. The nation’s freight and passenger rail services support a wide variety of private sector employment opportunities in the rail manufacturing/supply/service fields. To expand the number of these jobs, the rail manufacturing/supply/service sector depends on a strong rail industry that carries a growing share of both freight and people.

Freight RRs need to earn sufficient revenue to be able to reinvest in their privately owned rail networks. U.S. freight rail is a user pay system (unlike the subsidized highway system); A strong, vibrant passenger rail system requires a partnership between the federal government, Amtrak, and the states to provide the capital support that ensures the private sector rail manufacturing/supply jobs.
