Keertan began her musical journey at the tender age of five in Leeds, where through culture, community and her Sikh religious background she began learning Gurbani Kirtan from Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE and Smt. Gunwant Kaur. Keertan quickly developed a real connection with music and this was broadened by her exposure to North Indian Classical music at the age of eight.
Keertan had the privilege of learning under her late Guru Ji Jayasree Sen Gupta, a disciple of the Legendary Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, and under his tutelage she began performing for festivals as a solo performer and with groups. Following her Guru Ji’s passing, Keertan was keen to continue her musical journey. She currently takes trips to India to receive further training from music Maestros and learns Kirtan in Classical Ragas. You can learn Hindustani Vocals and Shabad Kirtan with Keertan every Sunday afternoon at SAA-uk's Hindustani Music Academy.
