Manhood Journey - Father and Son - Bible Study - Discipleship Program

Trail Life Troop CA-0317 Presents
What is Manhood Journey? It’s a Bible Study. There are many son-raising programs that come from various sources. This one is based on the Bible. We believe that everything our young men need to know about how to be a man is found in scripture. Further, we believe the Holy Spirit guides the godly dad/mentor to discuss and discover what needs at any given moment. With God’s Spirit guiding us and His Word serving as our “man manual,” we are on firm footing. It’s a Discipleship Program. We believe that discipling of young men is best done by their own father, but we have a great group of male leaders who are available for situations where fathers cannot be there. This can open up a number of questions, so to be clear:· The wise dad knows he doesn’t have to go alone – he can enlist other dads for wisdom and even point his own son to other men who can add value.· A godly mom is crucial – we fully advocate an active, engaged mother in a son’s life. If anything, they are often more engaged than us dads. We simply want dads to step up as their boys head into their “double-digit” years.· Church leaders are key for reinforcement – but, they are not the primary discipling mechanism for our sons. We encourage men to get their sons engaged in youth groups, volunteering and other church activities. But, that should serve to reinforce, not replace, what we are already doing at home.· Some young men have no engaged father – this program is perfect for those young men if we can pair them up with caring men who will pour into them. Some of us did not have an engaged godly father helping us figure life out. However, we found other men we could model ourselves after and learn from. It’s a Discussion Starter. We do not believe that the Manhood Journey program has all the answers. Actually, quite the opposite – the Modules only feature a ton o’ questions! One of our goals is to get fathers and their sons talking about meaningful and relevant stuff. We are not overly concerned with whether the dad is perfect or has a Bible degree or is a gifted communicator. We just care that the discussions begin or continue. We hope that most (all?) of the group go through a few modules then veer “off course” into discussions and content that is unique to that group’s situation. We hope to be catalytic, not comprehensive. It’s a Short Term Commitment (at first).Groups consist of 4 to 8 dads, who each bring a son (or sons) with them. They meet in 6-week sprints, with discussions guided by Manhood Journey Modules. The young men are normally between the ages of 8 and 15, depending on each group’s unique situation. Young men who are fatherless through abandonment or for other reasons can still attend and be mentored by a caring troop leader who wants to pour into their lives. Our group will meet at Journey Evangelical Church on Mondays at 7:00 PM for six weeks sprints. It’s a Program for “Everyday” Dads. One underlying pillar of this program – any of us can lead a group. Sure, it helps if we have some experience with handling the Bible, however the only real prerequisite is a desire to disciple your son. If you have that, we can equip you do to the rest. Primarily, the Leader Survival Guide is our core training asset. It covers all the basics. For more info about Manhood Journey, go towww.manhoodjourney.org. In partnership with Trail Life, the Manhood Journey team has created a Trail Life version of the Manhood Journey modules. We will be using these modules/materials for our Trail Life Troop.

Trail Life Troop 317 - Journey Evangelical Church
Welcome to Troop 317
We are one of the first Trail Life USA Orange County troop in central Orange County specifically in city of Westminster.
Our troop is under the lordship of Jesus Christ and the leadership of Senior Pastor Richard Pfeil presiding over Journey Evangelical Church. We are also blessed with Samuel Pech who serves as Children’s ministry director at JEC as our Charter Organization Representative and Rev. Rick Nieves as our Troop Chaplain to provide strong biblical teaching to our boys.
In addition to our pastoral leadership, we are pleased to have Brandon Grove, a second generation Eagle scout and former Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, to serve as our Troopmaster/Advisor. Beyond being a godly mentor to our boys, Brandon brings years of outdoor adventure experience and expertise to our troop.
