Event description

Description

The Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met and the International Anthony Burgess Foundation are delighted to present an evening with James Miller. James will be reading from and talking about his work in conversation with the Manchester Writing School's Gregory Norminton - and presenting his latest book, UnAmerican Activities, which is published in November 2017.

James Miller's publications include Lost Boys ("a genre-defying debut" - The London Paper) and The Sunshine State ("an exhilarating ride that combines Bourne-style action and John Le Carré-ish intrigue with a JG Ballard-inspired nightmare vision of the future" - SFX magazine). UnAmerican Activities is comprised of ten interlocking short stories which subvert and pay homage to American pop culture and genre fiction, and explore the conspiracy theories and violence the defines the American everyday through a series of deranged and desperate narrators. James studied English Literature at Oxford and Anglo-American Literature at University College London, before completing a PhD in African American Literature at King's College London. He is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Kingston University.

Manchester Writing is a series which explores the techniques authors use and choices they make when writing, and debate issues arising from their work. James will be reading from and talking about his work in conversation, and answering questions from the audience. Drinks will be available to purchase from the bar and copies of James' books will be available from Blackwell’s bookstall, with signing after the event.
