Manchester Museum Learning Team invites teachers from across Greater Manchester and beyond to a South Asia-themed TeachMeet!
Come to the Study after-hours for an interactive evening inspired by this fascinating area of the world:
SHARE: inspirational ideas to engage pupils
MAKE: try new creative techniques with South Asian-inspired artists
SENSE: handle genuine artefacts with Museum staff
DISCOVER: meet experts in this topic
WONDER: help shape the Museum's South Asia Gallery for 2020
Free refreshments will be provided.
Everything will be linked to our upcoming capital redevelopment known as the Courtyard Project; in particular to the new South Asia gallery which is planned for 2020 in a landmark partnership with the British Museum.
Speakers and experts include:
Prof. Claire Alexander, University of Manchester – South Asian identity and migration; oral history with young people
Mark Chadwick – St Mary’s Primary – the Indus Valley Civilisation
Anjum Anwar MBE – interfaith dialogue in schools
Dr Gayathri Ganapathy – storytelling and cognition through South Asian dance
British Council – ‘Connecting Classrooms’ global education programme
Blackburn Museum – film project on India’s role in WW2

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Please see here for transport options. There are roadworks around Oxford Road at the moment, and our stretch of Oxford Road is now closed to cars, so we advise that you use public transport if at all possible. However visitor parking is available within the University of Manchester.
