Managing Your Media Brand
by The Minneapolis/St Paul CFO Leadership Council

Thursday, February 21, 2019
RSM Offices - 11th Floor Meeting Room
7:15 AM to 8:00 AM Networking | 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM Program

Program Description:

It’s harder than ever today to “earn” media attention, whether it be in print, broadcast or online. Yet it remains extremely valuable: Ninety-two percent of people say they trust earned media, and 77 percent are more likely to purchase a product when they hear about it from a friend. We also live in times where just about every company is crisis waiting to happen. Security breaches, rogue employees, false accusations or honest mistakes can quickly reach all your customers and employees within seconds.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain an understanding of your company's brand and its impact
  • Discuss best practices on gaining beneficial media coverage
  • Learn how to plan for and react to crisis situations should they occur
  • Learn about the financial impact of communications on the business

Speakers

Dale Kurschner, Principal, Kurschner and Associates

Dale Kurschner is a Twin Cities based business analyst and advisor, public speaker, award-winning writer and on-air financial news commentator.

He previously served as Editor in Chief of Twin Cities Business, where he spearheaded the formation of several new-revenue projects, improved marketing and re-energized the TCB brand and its reach to broader audiences.

Before joining TCB, Dale led corporate communications for a $5 billion, 11,000-employee “start-up” division of UnitedHealth Group, and managed internal communications at Lawson Software while it merged into a company operating in 24 countries. Prior to this, he pioneered a new approach to financial journalism as founder of Profits Journal, was editor of Business Ethics magazine, and worked for Business Week, Dow Jones, Gannett and the Business Journal in Minneapolis and Milwaukee.

During his career, Dale has analyzed nearly 3,000 companies and interviewed more than 200 CEOs; created new and enhanced existing brands; and led organizations through periods of intense change.

Beyond his day job, he serves as vice chairman on the planning commission for the City of Excelsior, MN; regent for St. Mary’s University of Minnesota’s Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs; and advisory board member for ThreeSixty Journalism in St. Paul, MN.
