This workshop introduces participants to land management and restoration approaches for conserving biodiversity in Florida. Participants will:

  • Identify factors responsible for Florida's high biodiversity
  • Discover sources of information on biodiversity in Florida
  • Develop an understanding of threats to biodiversity and strategies that can be used to abate these threats
  • Compare ways to control invasive and non-native plant/animal species that threaten Florida's biodiversity
  • Learn how to prioritize which invasive species are most deserving of early treatment
  • Gain hands-on experience identifying invasive wildlife
  • Learn about the role of restoration in maintaining biodiversity over the long term
  • Use an established monitoring protocol to assess trends in biodiversity over time

Workshop material is presented in a hybrid format. Both the online and in-person trainings are required.

Online Training:

  • To be completed at your own pace anytime between March 27 and April 20, 2018. Expect to invest approximately 14 hours.

In-person Training:

  • 1.5 days face to face training on April 24 and 25, 2018 at Morningside Nature Center in Gainesville FL. Please email the coordinator to request a detailed agenda.

  • $250 (does not include lodging)

  • NATA will provide lunch on April 25; participants are responsible for all other meals. Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided throughout the workshop.

  • There will be an optional group dinner at a nearby restaurant on April 24.


Must be processed through the Eventbrite website at the time of registration. There are 2 payment options:

  1. Pay with a CREDIT CARD online at the time of registration on the Eventbrite website; the confirmation email contains your reciept.

  2. Pay by CHECK* via mail by requesting an INVOICE at the time of registration on the Eventbrite site (the invoice will be emailed to you within 3 days; the payment is due within 10 days).

*If you intend to pay by credit card, do NOT select the invoice option - those selecting the invoice option that later wish to pay by credit card will be required to re-register and will be placed on the waitlist if the course is at capacity.

All cancellation requests are subject to a $25 fee; NO refunds will be offered after registration closes (March 23, 2018)
