Man of the House

Presented by: John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

Written and Performed by David Gonzalez with Original Live Music by Daniel Kelly “Son, I’ve got to go. Now you are the man of the house.” Though it’s been six years since his father abandoned his family, these words still burn in young Pablito’s ears. But a summer in Miami, away from his mom and home in New York City, gives Pablito a chance to track down his dad and find out why he left. His search leads to many unexpected discoveries about his parents’ relationship and his father’s Cuban heritage—including a surprising revelation that just might bring their family back together. Hailed as “an engaging performer with a supple voice and a command of gestures” by the New York Times, master storyteller and Helen Hayes Award winner David Gonzalez (Sleeping Beauty, Aesop Bops!) returns with this new semi-autobiographical solo show, using rich vocalization, engaging physicality, and funky music to bring this honest and inspiring coming-of-age tale to life.
