Join MALA to celebrate four years of storytelling, community building, and cultural exchange.

About this Event

On November 7th, 2019, MALA will convene an influential and dynamic group of thought leaders, philanthropists, and community builders to celebrate our progress and plan for the future.

Our keynote address will be delivered by Chicago native and local legend, Malik Yusef. Malik is a 6-time Grammy and lead songwriter for Kanye West.

Proceeds from the Gala will support MALA's efforts to mentor, support, and provide resources for emerging leaders in the Muslim community through the MALA Scholarship Program and the Young Leaders Fellowship Program.

Yusef will be honored with MALA’s Community Builder Award for Arts & Culture alongside other diverse Chicago legends noted for their achievements in leadership and cultural development within the community. MALA’s Community Builder Awardees include Fam Mirza receiving the Entrepreneurship Award; Dorri McWhorter receiving the Leadership Award; Sadia Covert receiving the Civic Award; Louis Carr receiving the Media Award; and Dale Ginsburg receiving the Interfaith Award.

About Malik Yusef:

Malik Yusef is an avant-garde spoken word poet, musician, and producer. Born and raised in Chicago's South Side amongst a humble and sometimes troubled beginning, Malik rose to become a 24-time Grammy nominee, 6-time Grammy award winner, and a 7-time ASCAP award-winnerfor both Pop and R&B. Malik has songwriting credits for Beyonce, Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign, and many more.
