Event description

Description

Join the Millvale Tool Library and Girty's Run Watershed Association in learning how to make wooden nesting boxes! The boxes made in this class will be installed at Latodami North Park to provide nesting sites for the ducks that live there. We'll be working with a variety of electric saws, and this workshop is not suitable for people under 18 years old. Please RSVP so we can get enough supplies for everyone!

About Wood Duck Nesting Boxes:

Wood duck hens typically build their nests in tree cavities near wetlands. In many areas, wood ducks have difficulty finding natural nesting sites. Wood duck nesting boxes provide a man-made alternative, where hens can nest in relative safety from predators. Installing wood duck nesting boxes near water can help increase local or regional populations of wood ducks in areas where there are not enough natural tree sites.

This workshop is made possible through support from The Pittsburgh Foundation.

About the Millvale Tool Library:

The Maria Mongelluzzo Tool Library is a countywide resource provided by the Millvale Community Library. It is a collection of hand and power tools, ladders, and more that can be checked out for one week at a time for free.

About Girty's Run Watershed Association:

Girty's Run Watershed Association is dedicated to promoting a just and healthy watershed system through advocacy, education, and conservation..We envision a healthy watershed where improvements in stormwater management and water quality highlight Girty's Run as an asset to communities and ensures resident quality of life in addition to vitality of the native ecosystem.
