Making Sense of Cultural Equity

Racial and cultural equity are increasingly a focus of arts and cultural organizations' work. But not everyone agrees on what cultural equity looks like in practice. Competing definitions and goals can be a source of confusion, especially when they are not brought out into the open.

Led by Ian David Moss (Knowledge Empower, Createquity) & Justin Laing (Hillombo LLC, Managing Partner), we invite you to a full-day gathering that will use Createquity's taxonomy of cultural equity visions of success as a springboard for an exploration of what Dallas cultural equity success might look like at the organizational and community level.

After a morning full of learning and discussion, the afternoon session will be devoted to considering the question "What are the cultural equity outcomes that are both desirable and realistic for my organization to achieve over the next year?" in a small-group context with other organizations. The day will be capped off by a synthesis of what we have heard throughout, and suggestions for how the community might move forward from here.

Because the workshop looks to explore cultural equity from the perspective of African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, and Native American (ALAANA)- and white-led organizations, we hope to have a diverse turnout allowing us to serve as broad a set of the arts community as possible. We encourage you to share this notice with your colleagues.

Note: Registration is limited to up to two (2) representatives from each organization. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
