Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Making new friends is hard work… so much is involved in molding the perfect companion. This taxidermy materials and techniques class will give you all the info you need to get yourself out there! Lets all have a discussion over some wine, beer, and snacks. There are ways to do things right, but yet wrong, and many ways to do things wrong, but yet right. This class will help you navigate the differences in techniques.

Here at the studio we have uncountable materials that we use during the production of our work, from epoxies, clays, and chemicals, to glass eyes, teeth, and anatomical references. Why not come on down and enjoy a guided Q&A style workshop. We will cover the production of taxidermy from the very beginning to the naming ceremony.

By the end of this 3 hour course, you will have the right knowledge to begin your experiments in the world of animal preservation. Here’s what we are gonna talk about.

  • Tools of the trade
  • Skinning methods
  • Tanning procedures for various types of animals \
  • After tan treatments (oiling, fleshing, and stretching)
  • Striking the pose
  • Sculpting materials needed for form (body) building
  • Creating glass eyes, or buying them online
  • Plush, ridged, and hybrid taxidermy
  • Skeletal cleaning and making use of taxidermy byproducts
  • Overview of every online supply house you need to know about
  • How to cut corners… otherwise known as “budgeting” material

This is an interactive class, which means that we will be covering all of these topics, but its meant to be experiential and ESPECIALLY conversational. Please note, that we will not be covering too much on Arthropods (insects, crabs, and exoskeletal babies.) If that’s your bag, please check out our workshops on insects!

Making New Friends is a companion class to our other courses; Dove skinning and Kitty Skinning. Click HERE for more info. Our skinning courses involves the step by step process of how to get animals to take their clothes off. These companions also introduce a materials and techniques componant, but are focused on the practical skills involved with the first and most important part of the taxidermy process.
