Description

This course is the perfect offering for those artists comfortable with two-dimensions, interested to turn drawing and paintings into three-dimensional works of glass art to expand their creative vocabulary. The extended length of this offering allows for a completed project, spectacular; product of the direct method of mosaic production. A brief presentation to the techniques used, both historical and contemporary, will introduce varied examples of material use. Found supports, the introduction of found materials in addition to glass, as compositional accent, and the third dimension will round out or investigation of mosaic as the tool of the diverse artist. Students will look outside of the classroom to personal experience and to their own physical environments for strong conceptual basis to their personal work and a unique experience reflective of this age-old technique. Information will include proper installation procedures, including use of adhesives, grouts and resources for other materials with an eye to recycling, and their proper use for installation inside and out.

No experience with glass is necessary.

This class is being offered as part of our 40 for 40 series, a celebration of the 40th anniversary of UrbanGlass.
