Making it Work in Your Building: A Co-Teaching Series for Administrators

*This is a three (3) day event - Tuesday, October 3, 2017,  Thursday, December 14, 2017  & Thursday, April 5, 2018

Audience: General and Special Education Administrators at the elementary and secondary levels

Presenter: Dr. Marilyn Friend, Author, Consultant and Professional Developer

Description:

SERC, in partnership with the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS), will be providing a series of professional learning opportunities focusing on how to set up a successful co-teaching model in schools. The first session will be conducted by Dr. Marilyn Friend, an international expert in the field of co-teaching, and will feature suggestions for implementing co-teaching and contemporary ideas for evaluating its effectiveness in improving outcomes for students, particularly those with individualized education programs (IEPs). Administrators will also have the opportunity to discuss practices related to the preparation and support of co-teaching partnerships.

The remaining sessions will continue to support participants’ role in implementing co-teaching through discussion, examination of resources, and sharing of local co-teaching practices. Some topics will include selecting and maintaining successful co-teaching partnerships; scheduling students in co-taught classes; ensuring that specially designed instruction (SDI) is incorporated into co-taught lessons and approaches; and reviewing observational tools for use in supervising co-teaching teams.

All sessions will include a light breakfast and time for questions and answers.
