Making “Impact” Matter in Impact Investing

Interest and activity in impact investing continues to grow, and is attracting interest from a range of actors across the public, private and social sectors. If the pursuit of impact objectives is what differentiates impact investing from conventional investing, how are the different ways in which the field is framing, measuring and reporting on impact? This lecture will review the key trends and issues around impact measurement, and explore opportunities for the next generation of approaches and tools.

Karim Harji is a Co-Founder and Director at Purpose Capital, the leading impact investment advisory firm in Canada, where he advises asset owners and asset managers on the design, implementation and evaluation of impact investment strategies. He co-authored the strategic assessment of the Rockefeller Foundation’s Impact Investing Initiative, and the global landscape review, Accelerating Impact: Achievements, Challenges and What’s Next in Building the Impact Investing Industry. He was previously an Advisor to the Rockefeller Foundation on social impact measurement, and a Member of the Impact Measurement Working Group of the G8 Social Impact Investment Task Force. Karim is currently a DPhil Candidate at Kellogg College, where his research focuses on the materiality of social impact data for impact investors.
