Description

Making Friends with St Paul
Fr Nicholas King SJ

During this day we shall be looking at St Paul, a figure whom some find rather off-putting. The aim (and title of the day) will be “Making Friends with St Paul”.

In the first talk, we shall look at 1 Corinthians, where Paul is dealing with a very divided church, to see whether the lessons he teaches have anything to say to help heal Christians’ divisions today.

In the second talk we shall look at his attitude to women, and we shall end up seeing that the Apostle is not “against women”, but very much on their side.

The third session will be open for you to ask (in writing or orally) your own questions about St Paul; so start thinking what you would like to ask.

Nicholas King SJ is a Jesuit priest who taught New Testament for many years in South Africa, then at Oxford University, and at the School of Theology and Ministry at Boston College. He is currently the Jesuit Provincial’s Delegate for Formation. His translation of the entire Greek Bible was published by Kevin Mayhew in 2013.
