How will we use the plants?

Accepted Answer

Twine can be made from the fibres in blackberry vines. We'll remove the thorns, bash the vines to break up the stem, and strip off the fibres. Then we'll twist the fibres together to make a twine. I hope to then weave the twine into a net, to reflect Steveston's fishing history.

Are there any Covid precautions being taken?

We'll work outside as much as possible, and will have an air purifier running inside Branscombe. N95 masks will be available.

What if I have to leave early?

No problem! Stay as long as you like and leave whenever you feel done.

Question 4

Is this a kid-friendly event?

Accepted Answer

Blackberry has thorns that can give a painful scratch, so the removal session is not well-suited for children. The art-making processes are very simple but can be quite slow, so attention spans may vary. Feel free to come for a bit and leave when needed.

Is Branscombe House accessible?

Accepted Answer

The front entrance has several steps up, but the back entrance has a ramp. There is limited parking immediately behind the house. The workshop will take place on the main floor where there is an accessible washroom. There is also a larger washroom that can be accessed from outside the house.

How will I find you at Paulik Park?

Accepted Answer

Head to 7620 Heather Street and look for the orange pylons on Heather street for our meeting place (about half way down the block). There is plenty of street parking around the park.
