Event description

Calling all Makers!

We Need You For Our Mission to Mars

This year's Spring Camp is Mission to Mars. Our campers will learn what it takes to not only get to Mars, but live there too! Activities this week range from creating your own model rockets, to designing habitations, growing food to support human life, and building rovers to travel the rough terrain. Each day highlights a different aspect of life on Mars - perfect for little astronauts in training! There will even be a live interview with John C. Karas, the former VP of Lockheed Martin and Head of Human Space flight at NASA! Register Now as space is extremely limited for this unique STEAM experience!

There are two opportunities to join: March 26-30 + April 2-6

Getting to Mars

Campers learn about how rockets get launched into space. After exploring what it takes to get real shuttles into space, campers will spend the day designing rockets of their own!

Building Mars Habitations

So now that we've arrived on Mars, how do we survive here? Campers will envision their own designs for living and working in a strange environment - taking into consideration the extreme temperatures, atmosphere, and rough terrain on the surface of their new home planet.

Growing Food

After all this hard work, our Mars colonists have worked up an apetite! And our food reserves are starting to run low. We need to learn how to grow food that can sustain our growing population! We'll learn about what it takes to grow fruits and veggies in our new structures.

Building a Rover

We need to explore and expand. To do this, we'll create a rover that can transport our colonists all over the planet. We'll design and prototype our own vehicles using littleBits electronics.

Ask the Experts

This is the challenge of a lifetime! We are going to need all the expert help we can get to refine our ideas and come up with the right solutions to our challenges. Who better to ask than the former Vice President of Lockheed Martin and Head of Human Space Flight at NASA, John C. Karas? In a live interview, campers will be able to hear first-hand the work that has already been done to get us closer to travelling to Mars.

What are the camp hours?

The camps run Monday through Friday 9am-5:00pm. A $10 fee applies each hour for late pick up.

What ages are allowed to participate in the camp?

Kids from 7-12 are all welcome to join, certain exceptions can be made if contacted in advance.

Who will be leading the camp?

Tom Pupo and Daisy Nodal are the Co-Founders of Moonlighter Makerspace. After earning their Masters in Architecture from Florida International University, they taught at the SOA Design Studio for two years before opening Moonlighter. They now create one-of-a-kind STEAM educational experiences via workshops, camps, field trips and events, where they introduce all ages to the latest technologies available. Other successful educational programs they produce include Miami Dade College Continuing Education Summer Program and Maker Camp at Doral Conservatory of the Arts. As strong advocates of the Maker Movement, they believe that hands-on learning is not only the most effective, but the most inspiring in the development of a child. The making of a thing is the evidence of the lesson learned!

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, simply email any changes to info@moonlighter.co
