About Melissa and Matt Malzkuhn
As third-generation Deaf people, Melissa and Matt Malzkuhn have often been asked, “Where can I learn ASL?” While there are a number of resources for learning American Sign Language, the siblings realized that they were frequently scattered across the internet, too time-intensive, too expensive, or simply not intuitive. So Melissa and Matt created The ASL App to bring together signing and non-signing communities, and make ASL education more accessible, fun, and engaging for everyone.
The ASL App teaches conversational ASL and includes over 2,000 signs and phrases. Since it’s launch on iOS and Android in 2015, the app has amassed over 100,000 downloads and released special bundles with Nyle DiMarco, Andrew Bottoms, Andrey Dragunov, and more. With their app, the Malzkuhns aspire to foster more connections, idea sharing, and collaboration between signers and English-speakers.
