Meet Amornthep “Sanju” Sachamuneewongse
Since 2015, Amornthep “Sanju” Sachamuneewongse has lived with major depressive disorder and schizophrenia. In the years following his diagnosis, he went through medication, counseling, and electroconvulsive therapy, but decided to take his own life in 2018. Prior to harming himself, he called a suicide hotline, but his call, like many others, went unanswered and he was admitted to the hospital again.
An avid mental health advocate, Sanju created the Sati App to provide “on-demand listening” services to users, creating a safe space for people to share their feelings without fear of stigma. His hope is to build an army of empathetic listeners, reduce the number of suicide cases, and improve mental wellbeing worldwide.
