Event description
Making education tools to improve entrepreneurial skills for disadvantaged youth groups

About this Event

MAKER EDUCATION offers a transformational approach to teaching and learning that attends to the real and relevant needs of learners. It is an approach that positions the learners' interest at the center, asking them to become more aware of the design of the world around them and begin to see themselves as people who can tinker, hack and improve that design. Maker education has been proven to be an indispensable methodology for entrepreneurial learning and a tool to actively engage young people at risk of unemployment, poverty, exclusion and marginalization and radicalization.

This way, the two main objectives of this training are:

  • Equip youth workers with competences and methods on maker education that will prepare them for better empowering disadvantaged youngsters.
  • Prevent and tackle youth unemployment, risk of poverty and exclusion, marginalization and radicalization among the local youth communities by directly defining activities that will successfully reach and empower disadvantaged youngsters.

There are, as well, other specific objectives :

  • Explore new ways to include maker education, methodologies, and tools within the scope of youth work and non-formal education.
  • Boost youth workers' professional competences on maker education methodologies, and tools applied to their work with disadvantaged youth groups.
  • Boost youth workers' professional & personal competences as to better comprehend, understand and emphasize with the disadvantaged youngsters they work with.
  • Develop activities based on maker education to be implemented with disadvantaged youngsters boosting their entrepreneurial skills as a pre-requisite to promote youth employment and avoid the risk of poverty, marginalization, and radicalization.

The training is organized by YouthProAktiv, an international organization aiming to create a generation of proactive individuals ready to invest their talents for the betterment of society by starting their own business and creating jobs for themselves and the others.

The program will include different hands-on activities as well as in-depth presentations, development of social project ideas, exchange of best practices as well as self-reflection and community building activities for peer learning.

* More detailed information regarding the exact program and additional details will be provided upon registration.
