Event description

MakeIT AAL - Lava Test Tubes - Saturday, November 3rd from 10:00-11:00 am in the borough conference room.

The S.P.A.R.K.S. Foundation presents this engaging, hands-on program for 6 to 12 year olds. Observing a slow-moving lava lamp is mesmerizing, but creating one that needs no electricity is even more fun! In this hour-long STEM lesson and activity, children will focus on the way specific liquids are polarized similar to magnets. The program allows students to use the scientific method to observe and identify different states of matter. The budding chemists will wear their lab coats and use scientific tools and theory to be creative thinkers and problem solvers.Come join us for this lesson that is not only an introduction into chemistry and the three states of matter, it’s a lesson that students can draw upon when asking “how does the world work?” Participants will be able to take home their lava test tube and Parent Lab Sheet to share the science behind liquid polarization with family and friends.

This program is free for participants. Advance registration is required, as the library will pay a set fee per child.
