What makes a good STEM employee and employer?

Istuary Innovation Group will host its 2nd Talk featuring key panelists with backgrounds in Diversity and Leadership.  Christin Wiedemann, President of SCWIST, the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology, will provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities for women who are actively pursuing a career in a STEM field and what employers can do to ensure hiring and recruiting policies meet STEM and diversity practices. With a Ph.D. in Physics, Christin is the Chief Scientist of PQA Testing.

Cheryl Kristiansen, MakePossible Diversity by Design workshop facilitator, will lead an interactive networking skills exchange activity to help women (and men) to share skills they have to offer as well as identify skills they need to develop.  Cheryl has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, senior leadership experience in the oil and gas sector, and led the SCWIST project to develop a mentoring network to advance women in technology (www.makepossible.ca).

Harriet Chicoine, Program Manager SIAT and Faculty of Applied Science, Simon Fraser University (SFU), knows firsthand what students will need to do in order to get the career path of their choice, from both an education and workplace perspective. With 17 years of experience with SFU's Cooperative Education program primarily focused on the IT sector in BC, nationally and internationally, she will provide input on curriculum guidance for students and what opportunities are possible for STEM students entering the workforce.

Francois Guay, Director of Talent and Culture, Istuary Innovation Group will outline the company’s position on what makes a good STEM employer by ensuring diverse and inclusive priorities are implemented in recruitment policies and practices. With 20+ years in technology, Francois understands how to scale and guide companies through significant change and growth.

Join us for a light lunch where you will learn valuable tips and insights in diversity and inclusiveness followed by a networking session.

We’ll cover the tools needed to provide employees and employers the best chance of success in developing a STEM career.
