Event description

Description

Do you know what a "zine" is?

A zine is a homemade mini-magazine that's usually reproduced on a copier. The content is specialized to a particular group or interest. Think of them as "voices from the edge," or, simply a way to make your own magazine and put whatever you want into it!

Recently, we took a trip to the Bluestockings bookstore in NYC and collected about 25 different kinds of zines for inspiration. (FYI, we hear the downtown library also has a good zine selection.)

With all the art on our walls here at WWfac, all the ideas being exchanged in our writing circles, and all the creativity that arises in the chest of each woman writer, we have a TON of ideas for zines, and we know that you will, too!

So, please come to this day-long workshop, where we will write together, learn a bit about the history of zines, consider the many different styles, and then, create our very own! In fact, we're pretty sure we will make a number of them. We've got a copier, so you can make copies for friends and family!

We've got all the materials you need, but feel free to bring magazines, books, and images you might want to incorporate. We will provide refreshments in the morning, and we're hoping for a potluck for lunch. We'll spend the afternoon designing and printing our zines, and celebrate with enough time to read and enjoy each other's publications.

Join us as we get on the cutting edge of women writing for (a) change!
