A little bit about me...
My name is Melissa Goodspeed, and I am proud to announce my second charity event to benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation.I have previously hosted one in October of 2014. At the time, I was only thirteen years old and had been working on this project for over a year. My mission was to plan and host my own fundraiser to raise money for charity and donate all proceeds to The Make A Wish Foundation. In case you are unfamiliar with the organization, The Make A Wish Foundation, is a non profit, which grants wishes to children with life threatening diseases. Throughout my journey, many people asked for my passion behind this cause, my answer was simple. I have absolutely no personal connection to someone who had benefited from the foundations actions. I only had one thought process. Everyday I live and breathe to work towards fulfilling my own dreams, and if my chance to continue on this path was ripped from me, in a way that was uncontrollable, I would want to do everything in my power to live as much as possible before the unknown reaches me. I had a vision that I would hold this extravagant fashion show to help raise a sizable amount of money to donate. For twelve months I emailed hotels, country clubs, even VFW’s, looking for a space to hold this event. With absolutely no luck and countless amounts of no’s behind me, I was ready to move onto a new project. Finally in August of 2014, I was fortunate enough to come across a local country club who was more than happy to donate their space to my cause. From this point on I sent hundreds of emails to local and nonlocal businesses, looking for any kind of support. I shortly realized my emails were ineffective and I took my cause to the streets, walking from business to business asking for donations. After two and a half months of preparing, my event had fallen into place. I had about twenty girls walk in the show, and was able to single handedly secure over sixty raffle baskets, which were all donated. Once I had donated the money, shortly after I was invited to the Make A Wish Castle for a presidents dinner. Donating the money felt amazing, but seeing the castle in person, and experiencing the process some children go through, was a breathtaking experience which can not be put into words that would do it justice. It was the most captivating moment of my life, which has inspired me to host another event this upcoming May, to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation, once again. One of my biggest goals for the next five months, and even after, is to raise as much money as possible to donate to The Make A Wish Foundation, just for the satisfaction of knowing another child’s wish will come true, just as mine do everyday.
Because my first event was such a success I am finally ready to take it up a notch and make this next one bigger and better. Hopefully you can become a part of this amazing journey too!
