Event description
In this all day workshop, you'll learn the traditional Polish craft of pajaki.

About this Event

Pajaki (pah-yonk-ee) are traditional chandeliers made from rye straw and paper from Poland. Suspended from the ceiling, amongst colourful paper cut-outs, paintings and paper flowers, they are a popular decoration in Polish village houses and a symbol of happiness.

Karolina Merska is a pajaki maker reviving the tradition. She has travelled extensively in Poland to unearth and understand the history of the pajaki, to meet the makers, hone her techniques and to help regenerate this lost art.

You'll learn how to create a basic pajaki with five traditional 'kalinka' pom-poms, Polish rye straw, tissue paper and paper discs.

All materials are included in the workshop price.
