Description

Make a Bag - Envelops and Clutch Bags at The Foundry

A two-session class in the Textile Lab with Joseph Shishi
Monday, January 29th & Tuesday, January 30th
6:30pm - 8:30pm

Develop basic skills in sewing while making either a practical carry-all or an elegant accessory. A fabric Envelope or Clutch Bag is a simple project. This process can be mastered by anyone interested in learning how to operate a sewing machine, yet it forms the basis for furthering design skills in fiber construction using fabric or leather. Creating a classic fabric envelope is the first step in series of workshops developed to enable series members to design and then make your own bag.

In this first class - specifically for beginners - we provide the pattern and neutral heavy canvas material for the creation of either an envelop or a small clutch. The Textile Lab, our makerspace in the Foundry that houses a set of sewing machines and a range of tools for making with fabrics and fibers will serve as your studio for this two-session class.

Joseph will provide guidance, demonstrations and will support skills development during the first evening. In the second evening, work step-by-step on construction as Joseph responds to questions that emerge as we work together in the studio to create individual envelopes or bags.
