Bring the ohana for an early evening slide into Sunday twilight, join Makana and special guest Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole on a journey to steep the mind in spirit and uplift the heart.

Makana is a Grammy Nominated slack key guitarist, multi-genre producer, lyricist, singer and activist from Hawai'i, "charting a new sonic frontier with deep ties to tradition" - National Geographic Society
“Slack key guitar music, indigenous to Hawai’i, has been around longer than the blues, and Makana is considered the greatest living player.” – Esquire Magazine

Makana: Born & raised in Hawai’i Nei. Aloha ‘āina, aloha aina.
I was immensely blessed as a young boy to learn directly from the masters of an indigenous Hawaiian folk art called "Kī Hō'alu", which translates as “Slack Key”. It is a rare guitar style that I’ve dedicated my life and career to both perpetuating and evolving. From this uniquely Hawaiian foundation, I create music that transcends genre. Beyond guitar, I sing, compose music and lyrics, and utilize a broad range of instruments and tools to produce in a myriad of musical styles, including cultural musics from Polynesian to Latin to Celtic to Asian to African, contemporary folk music, bluegrass, rock, folk, and various expressions of down-tempo, lounge, and ambient experiences. I make music for people and trouble for Oligarchs.

Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole knows her roots, and she savors and celebrates them. Heralded as the emerging voice of Hawaii's new generation, her songs and chants in her native language are steeped in the island's lush landscape, her heritage, and her history. From a family whose contributions to Hawaiian art and culture stretch back eight matrilineal generations, Kanaka'ole's range is as remarkable as Hawaii's ancient traditions. She deftly transitions from booming contralto to sharp soprano − she calls the latter her "skinny girl voice" − and also incorporates dance. Her performances range from soulful to sly as she sprinkles her songs with playful commentary and storytelling.
