Event description
A workshop for staff, managers, executive directors and boards of organizations that work with traumatized service users.

About this Event

Maintain: Trauma Informed Principles for Trauma Exposed Workplaces is training for staff, managers, executive directors and boards of organizations that work with traumatized service users. Exposure to other people’s trauma, either directly or indirectly, carries very real consequences: vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout to name a few. If these impacts are not addressed the ability to provide support becomes compromised with sometimes devastating results for staff, organizations and ultimately the service users.

There is often a stigma attached to the impacts of trauma exposure that can make it difficult for helpers to seek support. It cannot be stressed enough how important the partnership between staff and volunteers, and the organizations that employ them is, to ensure that wellness strategies are in place and adhered to. Not only will this ensure the best support to service users but to maintain levels of energy, empathy, competency and wellness at all levels of our organizations.

The Maintain workshop defines these effects and impacts, and then looks at strategies that individuals and organizations can implement to mitigate the impact of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout.

Presented by Jenn Gorham, Associate Director, Sexual Violence New Brunswick in partnership with PEI Rape and Sexual Assault Centre, and UPEI.
