Made in America: Tracing the American Musical Idioms through the early 1900s

Performed by The Broken Consort | Directed by Emily Lau

The early history of American music is an eclectic quilt, a vibrant patchwork of colorful pieces grafted in from a wide variety of countries, cultures, and communities. We bring this exquisite music to you with thoughtful consideration of its history, and a deep appreciation of the people who shared this music from one heartto another, in cotton fields, churches, homes, theaters, and battlefields.

Praised by the press as “early music turned early magic”, critically-acclaimed chamber music ensemble The Broken Consort has “bewitched and beguiled” critics and audiences with its “extraordinary sonorousness” and “imagination”. TBC has toured extensively in the US, Mexico, and Canada as presented by leading early and chamber music series since its inception in 2010.

The concert will be accompanied by a collection of work, Portland Graces, by award-winning visual artist Hami Suh. Pre-concert music by The Curious Voices.

General Public: $50 | Big Mouth Member: Free
