Description

Please join us for our last field tours of 2017: a tour of Maine Water Company Drinking Water Treatment Facility!

Rick Knowlton, President of Maine Water Company, will be guiding us on a historic and exciting tour of the drinking water treatment facility on South Street in Saco, Maine. The Maine Water Company is a public water utility that currently owns or manages 13 water systems engaged in the collection, treatment, and distribution of potable water for homes, businesses and fire protection service. The Maine Water Company serves more than 32,000 customers (approximately 80,000 residents) throughout the state of Maine. The Maine Water Company has been serving customers since 1880.

When you drive along South Street, be on the look out for a Maine Water Company sign out front of the long driveway that leads to the treatment facility.

After the tour ends at 12pm, there will be an additional networking lunch with our partners at a restuarant called Run of the Mill in Saco. Please join us for great food and even better company! Please RSVP to Emily Greene at egreene@une.edu so that we may reserve a table at Run of the Mill. After lunch, there is an optional stroll to the River Walk that overlooks the waterfall that unites Biddeford and Saco. If you are interested in taking a walk, please dress appropriately for the weather. As always, thank you all for making our field trips inviting, engaging and something to look forward to this first year of the Saco Watershed Collaborative!
