The Mexican American/Hispanic Physicians Association (MAHPA), founded in 1983 as an IRS 501(c)(3) non profit organization, focuses on empowering underprivileged students to pursue and complete a graduate education in medicine or other health-careered degree. MedPrep, its resident high school program, includes a 60% clinical/health and 40% professinal/personal development curriculum.
The Mexican American Hispanic Physicians Association* (MAHPA) is
committed to assisting and empowering students, underrepresented in the
health professions, to pursue medical and healthcare careers.
By encouraging students to enter health professions, we strive to
improve the delivery of health care services to the medically underserved.
MedPrep is a tuition-free, 10-month course designed to introduce, encourage, foster and mentor high school students to a profession in a medicine or health related field. The program tracks student academic performance, influences grade improvement, and reduces drop out risks of at-risk kids through consistent, year round interaction with our physicians and community partners. Students continued participation is contingent upon maintaining passing grades in all their class subjects as well as in the program.
The syllabus consists of 60% medical/clinical and 40% supplementary courses that develop technical, personal, financial, and community responsibility, and includes off site field trips and tours to further enrich an already well rounded syllabus. MedPrep’s graduating seniors are eligible to apply for MAHPA scholarships.
MAHPA is committed to the principle of equal opportunity, and further encourages people of any gender, color, race, ethnicity, and national origin to apply for, including but not limited to, admission, or access to its programs. www.mahpa-sa.com
