Join us for a series of Mahle Lectures as part of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Re-Imagining Conference. Authors of Goddess and God in the World: Conversations in Embodied Theology--Carol P. Christ and Judith Plaskow--will present over the course of three days in November.

Judith Plaskow is professor emerita of religious studies at Manhattan College and a Jewish feminist theologian who has been teaching, writing and speaking about Jewish feminism and feminist studies in religion since the early 1970s. Co-founder and co-editor of the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, she is author or editor of several works in feminist theology. These include Womanist Rising: A Feminist Reader in Religion and Weaving the Visions: New Patterns in Feminist Spirituality, bothco-edited with Carol P. Christ; Standing Again at Sinai: Judaism from a Feminist Perspective and The Coming of Lilith: Essays on Feminism, Judaism, and Sexual Ethics 1972-2003. Her latest book, Goddess and God in the World: Conversations in Embodied Theology, is co-authored with Carol P. Christ. She is currently at work on a project on bodies, toilets, and social justice.


Carol P. Christ’s activism helped to found the study of Women and Religion in the academy, her widely republished keynote address “Why Women Need the Goddess” helped to launch the Goddess movement, and her first book, co-edited with Judith Plaskow, Womanspirit Rising, brought new ideas to a large audience. She holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Yale and has taught at Columbia University, Pomona College, Harvard Divinity School, and San Jose State. Her other books are Goddess and God in the World (with Judith Plaskow), A Serpentine Path, She Who Changes, Rebirth of the Goddess, Laughter of Aphrodite, Diving Deep and Surfacing, and Weaving the Visions (co-edited with Judith Plaskow). Born in California, she lives in Greece, has run for office with the Green Party Greece, and worked for decades to protect Natura wetlands in Lesbos. She leads the Goddess Pilgrimage to Greece in spring and fall www.goddessariadne.org
