About this event

A Time of Renewed Hope

We have an opportunity now to move forward toward a world of increased justice and renewal. Yet we still must face and overcome many obstacles, and we all carry wounds and scars—not just from the last four years of rising hate and corruption, but from a lifetime of living in systems that do not value the precious sacred being of all of us.

To bring about positive change, we must first be able to imagine it.

So in our Magical Activism series this year, we will hone the magical skills to divine, to discern, and to envision what is needed and what we desire, for ourselves and for the world. We must do the work of healing, of facing grief and loss, understanding and undoing the patterns of abuse, and finding allies that support our strength and resilience. Finally, we must engage our critical thinking skills as well as our magical intuition, to plot a course that will manifest our dreams.

This year’s Magical Activism series focuses on three themes: vision, healing and strategy.

Each session will involve deep personal work and then explore what we learn to make shifts on a community and world level. We’ll have suggested personal practices to carry us through the intervening weeks, and build community on our own private network.

We’ll respond to current events as they unfold, within a framework that teaches a series of magical skills. Each session will take place in a ritual framework and involve both teachings and experience. In addition to magical tools and skills, Starhawk will share insights from permaculture and regenerative design, along with stories and learning from her many decades of organizing and activism.

All of our sessions will include live closed captioning and ASL interpretation for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Members.

What's Included In the Series

Each session includes: a live teaching session (hosted on Zoom), some deep personal and community healing work within a ritual framework, and suggested personal practices to carry us through the intervening weeks.

All of our sessions will include live closed captioning and ASL interpretation for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Members.

The series centers on our live webinars, which will take place between January and November. Once you register here, you will automatically receive access to our past recordings and links to join all of our future live rituals as they become available, which are hosted in our private Magical Activism training network.

Can't make the live events? We will record them and send you the recording automatically via email within 36 hours of the live webinar's conclusion. It's not necessary for you to join the live events in order to get the full benefit of the series, but it's an excellent place to connect with other magical activists across the globe.

This year the entire course will be hosted on our private social network which allows you to easily access past recordings, upcoming live sessions, and network with other magical activists! You will receive an invite to the private community when you register here.

Registering after the series has begun? No problem. You won't miss a thing. Once you register here, you will:

  • Receive access to our private community and recordings page where you can see all past and upcoming sessions and their homework
  • Automatically receive links for all future live sessions and their recordings as well, delivered to your inbox as they are available.
  • Be invited to join the ongoing discussion in our private magical activism community.

Series Outline

This is our tentative schedule—of course, subject matter may shift in response to current events!

Session 0 | January 19th: Protection Magic

Magical Activists, friends and allies, let’s join together to send out protective magic for all those working for democracy, on January 19th, the day before Inauguration day. Join us to cast a spell of justice and renewal, to create a shield for those who defend human rights and a snare for lies, hate, and bullying. Bring yarn or string in a color that speaks to you of truth, and an image of Justice or Lady Liberty.

This is a FREE live intro session for the Magical Activism Series. Invite your friends to join us!

Session 1 | January 21st: Visioning Our Future

The day after Inauguration—it should be a time of celebration, of looking forward to a new era. So many of us have done so much work—magical and practical—to bring this change about! But this leadup time has been fraught with lies, grievance, fear, violence, and the continually rising death toll of Covid-19.

So this first session will begin with grieving, cleansing, releasing. Then we’ll do some group divination and ask for guidance for the new era. What will be our magical work, and what challenges might we encounter? What tools and allies can we count on to help us? What real-life work might we do in the world to bring into being a world of justice and renewal?

Session 2 | Thursday February 18th: Healing Work

We are going to delve into *real* healing work. We’ll start with some tools for energetic cleansing, and releasing anger and grief. Then we’ll experiment with doing some distance healing for someone in your life who needs it. Or—if you need healing, you can work on yourself! That’s important, too!

Session 3 | Thursday March 18th: Spring's Renewal

We will explore our bodies’ amazing capacities for healing and resilience. We’ll go on an inner journey into our immune systems, where Warrior cells attack pathogens, Trumpeters sound the alarm and Soothers calm it all down again. Our health and resilience depend on getting the balance right. Emotional trauma can upend this delicate equilibrium, but our magical tools can help us heal.

Session 4 | Thursday April 15th: Mystery of the Seeds

In this session, Starhawk will teach us how to find a plant ally and open up communication with the Green World. You might work with an ally for your personal healing, or for bringing about the greater social transformation that we need.

Session 5 | Thursday May 20th: Erotic Power

In this Magical Activism session, we’ll explore the pentacle of sexuality, fertility, creativity, community and regeneration. We’ll work with the Three Selves of the Feri Tradition, for healing and integration of all our parts. And we’ll look at the ways these gender/power constructs feed into other constructs of inequity in our society.

Session 6 | June 10th: The Otherworld

New Moon: The Otherworld: The Fae, the Land Spirits and the Land Behind the Land

Session 7 | July 1st: Let Democracy Flow!

A guided journey to become the river of justice. Martial Artist Rene Collins will guide us in movement and Ocean the Deaf Witch will guide us with visual language. Together we can unleash our inner and outer power to overcome blocks and water the soil of democracy.

Session 8 | August 19th: Fire Mysteries

What can we learn from fire that might help us transform our own frustration and our collective stuckness into movement? How can our rage fuel new, creative thinking and approaches to making change? How can we stay energized for the long-term work of making justice?

Session 9 | September 24th: Navigating Uncertainty

The Equinox is a time of balance, but it can also be a time of extremes, of the highest and lowest times, of storms and gales. So our work will be to find our inner compass, something that can help us steer through the pounding waves and find our way to our destination.

Session 10 | October 28th (Samhain)

Ancestor Work

Session 11 | November 18th (last session)

Dreaming the Dark

This course is open to anyone who wants to learn these skills and tools. My own political perspective is progressive to radical. I’ve had a lifelong commitment to social justice in all its forms, to non-violence, feminism, environmental balance and justice, and undoing all the structures of oppression.

We offer this course by donation because we want all who are called to this work to be able to access it. Donate what feels comfortable for you, and share this course with all who may be called to this work!

I strongly believe that what we need now is a powerful, welcoming movement for justice in all its forms, one that is truly inclusive of all people, and that generates energy, enthusiasm and joy even in the midst of struggle.

I look forward to sharing with you all throughout the coming journey.

A Note From Starhawk On Donations

I strive to make my teachings accessible, and don’t ever want money to be a barrier to people getting the information, skills and resources they need. I also believe people should be paid fairly for their work.

Frankly, these two values sometimes seem to be in conflict. My team and I do the best we can to find a fair balance. I offer many resources for free or at very low cost, and charge for others. When you donate for a course or pay at the top of our scale, that helps support the work I do, provides access for those who have fewer resources, and helps us keep the work sustainable.

I know this is a hard time for many of us financially as well as in every other way—and that includes myself and my team who have also lost major sources of their livelihoods in the past year. We are deeply grateful for the generosity so many of you have shown, and are thrilled to be able to offer this course by donation to make it accessible to as many people as possible. We encourage you to donate what feels comfortable for you, whether that's $5 or $500.

We can take care of one another! Thank you!
