Maestros del Mezcal Rare Mezcal Tasting
Mon, April 3, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM PDT
Join Mezcalistas and Maestros del Mezcal's Rion Toal for a tasting of small producer mezcals, conversation, and botanas from Sacramento's latest mezcal and Mexican locale, the freshly opened Cantina Alley.
Maestros del Mezcal is a non-profit cooperative comprised of hundreds of mezcal makers across Mexico. As we taste several mezcals, we'll converse with Rion about the project and hear more about why there is a need for alternative business models for the mezcal industry. We'll also gain insight into the lives of mezcal makers in Mexico and how the decisions we make as consumers on both sides of the border impact them and the communities in which they live, grow and produce.
Cantina Alley, Sacramento's newest Mexican restaurant dedicated to art, Mexican craft beer, and of course, agave, will be serving up botanas from their kitchen.
About Maestros del Mezcal
Maestros del Mezcal is a non-profit organization based in Mexico composed of hundreds of mezcal producers from all the Mexican states that make mezcal. Through social organization we maintain, promote, and protect the rich culture, history, and natural resources behind TRADITIONAL MEZCAL. Maestros del Mezcal provides financial and technical support to better palenques - or distilleries, reforest agave in danger of extinction and reforest trees used as fuel for production. Another purpose of the organization is to gain access to foreign markets, establish price standards, and in general better the standard of living in the Mezcal producing regions.
