Event description

Description

Prof. Christopher Lynch will examine Machiavelli's unfavorable portrayal of famous classical philosophers like Plato, Aristotle and Cicero. In his lecture "Machiavelli's Philosophical Denigration of Philosophy," Lynch argues that Machiavelli is actually attempting to save philosophy from thiknkers whose rhetoric has made it vulnerable to corruption. Lynch is Professor of Political Science at Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin. He has published articles in Hebraic Political Studies, History of Political Thought, and Review of Politics as well as a translation of Machiavelli's Art of War (University of Chicago Press, 2003). He is currently working on Machiavelli on War a comprehensive treatment of Machiavelli's theories on the subject.
