MAAFA SERUDJ-TA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing

San Antonio, Texas

MAAFA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing will commemorate and honor those that lived and died in the MAAFA (African Holocaust) and celebrate those that struggled and sacrificed to restore MA’AT(truth, justice and righteousness).

MAAT Marketing and the Pan African Cultural Community are sponsoring the inaugural “MAAFA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing” on Saturday, October 5, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. The purpose of memorializing the MAAFA is to pay homage to the Ancestors, acknowledge the lingering effects of slavery and racism and create a community dialogue in order to develop a healing program and process. This year’s theme is “400 years (1619-2019) Never Forget Never Again.”

The day will consist of a MAAFA ceremony, premiere of the stage play/film “Maafa Serudj-Ta”, release of the music CD “MAAFA,” the unveiling of the Maafa Mobile Exhibit and a community presentation and discussion on the ill effects of slavery/racism and how to heal and move forward.

The MAAFA ceremony will be at the South Lions Park at 8 a.m. All other events will take place at the Carver Library beginning at 12 p.m.

Baba Aundar Maat, founder and organizer for the event, says, “Only the truth can set us free from the ill effects of slavery. The healing begins when we acknowledge the pain and the origin of the dis-ease. MAAFA SERUDJ-TA: A Day Remembrance and Healing is a critical step in the healing and repair of African people and the human family.” He believes that this program should become an annual event for our community, our nation and the world.

Your contribution will support the production cost of the stage play, music CD, mobile exhibit and other expenses of the day.

MAAT Marketing-KuumbaNia(Creativity with a Purpose) creates cultural products and programs to educate and empower the community. They coordinate and host cultural festivals and events such as: The Kwanzaa Market Festival; Pan-African Festival, Black History for Children Book Exhibit and others.
