Immerse yourself in a college-level arts experience this summer! Limited enrollment.

All classes are open to High School students, freshmen through seniors, with beginning to advanced level art training who want to further explore or expand their technical skills and artistic ability.

DRAWING

Session one: July 10 - 14, 9am – 3pm, Tuition: $300*

Session two: July 24 –28, 9am – 3pm, Tuition: $300*

This foundation course focuses on observational drawing skills, teaching students how to accurately depict the subjects in front of them. Emphasis will be placed on tactics to measure, plot and interpret what they see.

OIL PAINTING

Session one: July 17 –21, 9am - 3pm, Tuition: $300*

Session two: Aug 7 -11, 9am - 3pm, Tuition: $300*

This foundation course focuses on direct and indirect oil painting methods. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills to paint the subject in terms of form, color, light, tone and texture. The instructor will demonstrate techniques in layering paint and use of mediums.

CONCEPT ART

July 17 - 21, 9am – 3pm, Tuition: $350*

This course will focus on the basic building blocks for concept design. Concept design is a key component of today’s entertainment market and is used in video game creation, animation, movies and the Internet. It can involve visualizing fantastic creatures, scenes, clothing, vehicles and a variety of other applications. There are some basic principles that contribute to concept art creation and this class will provide basic fundamental knowledge that will allow a student to further explore concept design on their own.

INTRO TO ANIMATION

July 24 -28, 9am - 3pm, Tuition: $325*

Learn to animate using Adobe creative cloud, especially Photoshop. Instruction will emphasize artistic creativity, timing, motion and combining sound and/or music.

Instructor: Roland Becerra, BFA, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago; MFA, Yale University, School of Art.

INTRO TO ILLUSTRATION

July 24 -28, 9am - 3pm, Tuition: $325*

Students will explore drawing and painting as a means of thought and communication. Aspects of art, storytelling and careers in illustration will be introduced alongside class projects. Student will develop skills in water-based media, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Projects include character illustration and album art. Upon completing the class, students will have learned how to produce a professional illustration from start to finish.

SCULPTURE

July 31- Aug 4, 9am – 3pm, Tuition: $300*

This foundation course will explore three-dimensional concepts, skills and process. Students will work in clay and construct an armature and sculptural form from direct observation. Emphasis will be placed on learning anatomical, structural and proportional strategies necessary for building the sculpture.

INTERMEDIATE ILLUSTRATION

July 31- Aug 4, 9am – 3pm, Tuition: $325*

Prerequisite – Intro to Illustration

Intermediate Illustration introduces students to projects that serve as the building blocks for their continued growth toward understanding the field of illustration. Traditional forms of media, like pen and ink, colored pencil, watercolor and gouache will be presented with the goal of achieving professional quality outcomes. The class will also work with digital art media and photo-reference in conjunction with the digital lab to produce finished artwork. This exposure to advanced methods and materials will further enhance the quality of student work.

INTERMEDIATE ANIMATION

July 31- Aug 4, 9am – 3pm, Tuition: $325*

Prerequisite – Animation

Intermediate Animation builds upon what was taught in beginning animation. Students will continue working with Adobe Photoshop/After effects and will be introduced to Adobe Premiere. The course will also focus on the principles of storytelling and characterization with the goal of developing more advanced projects.

CAMPUS HOUSING AVAILABLE: High school students who are enrolled in one or more classes and are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian can choose to stay in the College’s onsite Southwick Commons Townhomes during the week(s) they are taking classes. The College’s Townhouses are fully furnished, complete with a full kitchen and living room; two bedrooms, each with adjacent full bathrooms; a washer and dryer; air conditioning and a private garage.
