LWVHouston Women's Equality Day & Rising Stars Reception

The League of Women Voters of Houston Education Fund is set to celebrate the newest LWVHouston Rising Stars, Class of 2013-2014 at the League’s annual Women’s Equality Day event on Thurs., Sept. 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hughes Hangar at 2811 Washington Ave. Houston, Texas. During the event the League will reveal which newest Rising Star has been selected to receive the Carrie Chapman Catt Leadership Award.
The League of Women Voters of Houston is also set to honor First Person Founder and CEO Christina Gorczynski with the League of Women Voters Houston President’s Medal. Carolyn Mata, League of Women Voters Houston President, will present the award to Gorczynski.
The event will also acknowledge the 93rd anniversary of the 19th Constitutional Amendment, the amendment that gave American Women the right to vote as well at the 93rd anniversary of the League of Women Voters of Houston organization. The event is chaired by Sarah Schimmer and Ryan Leach, both League of Women Voters of Houston Education Fund Board Trustees.

League of Women Voters Houston Area Education Fund
The League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of the Houston Area were both established in 1920, the year that the nineteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States gave women the right to vote. The League of Women Voters is a direct descendant of the women’s suffrage movement, repositioning an active and effective organization to henceforth serve all voters. The League continues as a grassroots organization working at the national, state, and local levels. Membership in the League of Women Voters of the Houston Area includes membership in our state League (LWV TX) and in the national League (LWV US).
The League of Women Voters Houston Area Education Fund is a nonprofit, tax-deductible 501(c)3 organization with the LWV-HA Board serving as trustees. It is not a member organization. The Education Fund can receive tax-deductible gifts to be used for educational purposes. The Education Fund works to encourage the active and informed participation of citizens in government and to increase understanding of major public policy issues. The Education Fund provides research, publications and forums on public policy issues.
