About this event

  • 6 hours 30 minutes
  • Mobile eTicket

Join us on an exciting trip to Lunenburg, a fishing port town that is one of only two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Traditionally, the GFETW has included cultural exchanges in the form of local trips, and the 7th GFETW will focus on Atlantic Fishing and Maritime Law. Immerse yourself in a rich cultural experience located in a community that has centered around the fishing industry for over two centuries, and end the trip by enjoying a dinner which will also be provided in Lunenburg.

Transportation to Lunenburg is included--buses will pick up participants outside of the Maritime Museum at 1:30 PM in the zone pictured below and return around 9 or 9:30 PM. A local historian will provide narration on the surroundings during the bus ride there. Dinner will be provided at a local restaurant (Old Fish Factory?). Maritime Museum is located at1675 Lower Water St, Halifax, NS B3J 1S3, Canada, just a 5-minute walk from the Halifax Convention Centre where the conference will be held.

Only members approved and registered for the GFETW conference can sign up for field trips, so please make sure you've already signed up for the GFETW conference first. Upon pre-registering and being approved for this field trip, you will receive another link to submit a payment of $85, including dinner, which is a rate discounted by about $25 independent from GFETW sponsorship.

The International Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) Network will partner with Fisheries and Oceans Canada to convene the 7th Global Fisheries Enforcement Training Workshop (GFETW) from 30 July — 04 August, 2023 at the Halifax Convention Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This represents the first time that the GFETW has been hosted in North America. We are thrilled to welcome each of you and look forward to finally meeting in person after two event postponements. The global COVID-19 pandemic and OMICRON outbreak has kept us apart for too long, but we promise to make 2023 the best meeting in GFETW history!
