Event description
March Primary: Smart Growth & Voter Power

About this Event

The Safeguard our San Diego Countryside (SOS) ballot initiative is a grassroots effort to have our county board of supervisors adhere to the General Plan adopted in 2011. It also enables only voters, not supervisors, to override the General Plan in land use decisions in rural and semi-rural areas. Come hear experts discuss the details and learn why it's right for San Diego: Nicole Capretz, Executive Director of the Climate Action Campaign, will discuss the climate and social equity impacts of the General Plan Amendments and how SOS would help reduce those impacts. Rick Halsey of The Chaparral Institute will talk about the fire and habitat conservation issues that SOS would help address. Larry Herzog, Professor Emeritus, Graduate Program in City Planning, SDSU School of Public Affairs will explain what SOS would mean for planning and growth in the region. Moderated by Dr. Philip Pryde, Professor Emeritus at SDSU where he taught courses in environmental policy for 32 years.
