About this event
Sarah M. Halter is a medical historian and the executive director of the Indiana Medical History Museum. She earned a B.A. in Anthropology an M.A. in Museum Studies, both from IUPUI. She is also a graduate of the Seminar for Historical Administration, now History Leadership Institute, and completed a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
Among other things, her research interests include late 19th century psychiatry and asylum reform in the United States and the social and medical history of syphilis in the early to mid 20th century. At IMHM she focuses much of her research and programming on the patient experience at Central State Hospital and in 2019 unveiled a new reinterpretation of the IMHM specimen collection that shares the human stories represented by those specimens.
Outside of the Museum, Sarah is also vice president of the League of Women Voters of Indianapolis and secretary of the Southern Association for the History of Medicine and Science. She serves on the Boards of Easterseals Crossroads, the Center for Ray Bradbury Studies at IUPUI, the John Shaw Billings History of Medicine Society at IU School of Medicine, the Association of Indiana Museums, and Youth Enhancement & Training Initiative (YETI).
