Progressive Design Concepts for the Evolving Learning Environment
It’s a fact of life—budgets at schools are always tight. With K - 12 and post-secondary schools together spending more than $14 billion on energy every year, finding ways to cut utility costs, increase efficiency and keep students and teachers comfortable and focused are constant concerns when designing or renovating schools. Air movement provides an effective, efficient and environmentally friendly way of keeping students, teachers and staff comfortable in spaces of all sizes.
This course will discuss how air movement can be incorporated into educational spaces, whether during the initial design process or as a component of a renovation. It will specifically examine air movement in gyms, classrooms and libraries, and will address pre-cooling, air quality, noise levels and how to effectively control comfort in spaces like auditoriums that experience periods of high and low capacity. You’ll also learn how air movement can contribute to earning points in green ratings systems like LEED and CHPS.
Understand how air movement can maximize energy savings and comfort in a range of educational applications.
Demonstrate how air movement strategies aid in saving energy, improving comfort, minimizing materials usage and improving indoor air quality.
Learn the different considerations for incorporating air movement in a variety of spaces within a school (for example, classrooms vs. libraries vs. gyms).
Understand how air movement strategies can contribute to earning points in green rating systems, including LEED and CHPS.
