Description

Join us for lunch with the Early Literacy Success Alliance (ELSA), on June 14, 2017. Learn about ELSA and SVP’s partnership to advocate for policy change, focused on advancing early literacy from a panel of experts.

The benefits of early literacy are well understood, yet two-thirds of all Oregon fourth-graders are not reading at a proficient level. These numbers are even more alarming for historically under-served students. ELSA was formed to bring together nonprofit providers with missions related to early literacy in order to achieve deeper impact through coordination and cooperation.

As part of their work, ELSA members identified the need to influence public policy—to reinforce how effective literacy support contributes to school readiness and school support, and to elevate their collective expertise on this issue—as the highest priority need

Hear from a group of panelists, closely involved in ELSA’s advocacy work. Moderated by Ian Greenfield, Strategies 360, we will discuss how the collective’s advocacy process worked across member organizations of all sizes and how the effort helped more children become Ready for Kindergarten.

Panelists:

* Chris Otis, Executive Director, SMART

* Christy Scattarella, Executive Director, Shadow Project

* Dani Swope, Executive Director, Children’s Book Bank
