Join us for this one-of-a-kind event about the making of Ms. Eshel’s Films ‘Maxwell Street: A Living Memory,’ and ‘A Voice Among the Silent: The Legacy of James G. McDonald’ with a special excerpt reading from Mr.Schatz, who co-authored with Ms. Eshel the book ‘Jewish Maxwell Street Stories’

Shuli Eshel, Israeli born Chicago filmmaker, is an award winning producer-director of documentaries of the arts, politics, social and historical matters. Among her documentaries are Women’s Peace in the Middle East, Illinois Women Artist and Jewish Women in American Sport. She has been involved in the film and television faculties at Columbia College, Roosevelt University in Chicago and the Tel-Aviv Museum in Israel. Ms. Eshel holds a B.A. in English & American Literature and Linguistics from Tel-Aviv University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in film and television from Hornsey College of Art, London, England.

Her most recent and highly acclaimed documentary, A Voice Among the Silent, tells the remarkable story of James G. McDonald’s humanitarian efforts to rescue Jewish refugees from the Nazis and later becoming the first U.S Ambassador to Israel. The film had its debut on Capitol Hill on Holocaust Remembrance Day, followed by the two premiere screenings in New York and then a Midwest and Chicago premieres at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Temple Sholom in 2014.

With over 30-years experience in broadcast news and media relations as a reporter and producer, Roger Schatz was vice president and partner with Shuli Eshel at Cavalcade Communications Group in Chicago for the past 24 years. A graduate of Indiana University, Mr. Schatz, a writer and photographer concentrating on myriad subjects, has taught broadcast journalism at Columbia College, Chicago for more than 25-years.

Mr. Schatz, was a consultant on Eshel's Maxwell Street documentary, co-wrote the script for Jewish Women in American Sport and A Voice Among the Silent: The Legacy of James Grover McDonald.
