February 17, Common Toxic Garden Plants
Your garden may be a relaxing retreat, but it's not a place to let your guard down, especially when it comes to small children and the family pet. Some popular plants like oleanders, milkweed, Angel’s trumpet, and many others you prize for their ornamental beauty, can turn into toxic killers within minutes if ingested, whether consumed out of curiosity or by mistake. Learn about these and many other plants you need to be aware of, especially if you have small children or pets, and what to do when ingestion is suspected.

Native to Central and South America, there are over 2600 species of Bromeliads. They grow in deserts and rainforests, at all altitudes, in sun and shade and many thrive right here in Southwest Florida. Master Gardener Chris Gilbert will present dozens of colorful varieties for you to consider for your landscape in an informative power point presentation. He will discuss how to grow, divide, and care for this unique and diverse group of plants.
